Worthy of Your Wages

Worthy of Your Wages
Truth Unveiled with Ralph
Worthy of Your Wages

Key Takeaways

  • Many Christian professionals struggle to demand fair pay and recognize the true value of their work due to underlying identity and worth issues.
  • Scripture affirms in Luke 10:7 that the laborer is worthy of their wages, establishing a divine precedent for fair compensation.
  • Setting healthy professional boundaries is a crucial part of honoring God with your time and preventing exhaustion from overwork.
  • Business owners and employers are biblically mandated to pay their workers fairly and on time.
  • Your inherent worth is determined by God, not by your working hours, income level, or daily productivity.

It's 10 o'clock at night, and someone is retyping an invoice with a smaller number. Across town, someone else is still answering emails, afraid that if they stop, people will find out they aren't enough.

I've seen both of these people sitting across the desk from me in my tax practice. And I've realized they're struggling with the same question: Who am I to ask for that?

In today's episode, I want to talk about why so many of us struggle to ask for fair pay, set boundaries, and believe that our work has value.

We'll start in Luke 10, where Jesus sends out seventy people with no bag and reminds them that the laborer is worthy of his wages. Then we'll turn to Colossians 3, where Paul speaks to people who had very little control over their work.

I want to show you what Scripture says about the value of your work, why fair pay matters, and why rest is part of the assignment, too. Whether you're undercharging, working yourself to exhaustion, signing the paychecks, or stuck in a job that doesn't pay enough, I believe there's something here for you.

Here are three things I want to challenge you to try this week:

  • Name a fair number and stop apologizing for it.
  • Put one boundary around your work and stick to it.
  • If you're responsible for paying others, pay them fairly and on time.

Remember, your worth isn't determined by how much you earn, how many hours you work, or how much you accomplish. God has already given your life value.
