Stepping Beyond Almost: Embracing Full Faith in Jesus

In today's hectic world, amidst the cacophony of cultural noise and endless streams of opinions, it can be easy to feel content yet confused about where we stand in our spiritual lives. I’m Ralph Estep Jr., and I’d like to invite you on a journey of uncovering what it truly means to follow Jesus, peel back the layers of "almost," and venture into full surrender.

Almost: The Comfort Zone That Stops Us Short

How many of us nod our heads through sermons, claim belief, yet hold back true commitment? We might think being a good person or holding Jesus in high regard is enough, but is it? Almost following Jesus feels comfortable, yet it's dangerously misleading. It's a state that dangles near truth but never fully embraces it, never brings transformation. Our lives can be filled with good deeds and still miss the essence, the deep surrender that molds us into faithful followers.

The Rich Young Man: A Lesson in Surrender

The story of the rich young man in the Bible resonates so well with our reluctance to fully surrender. He followed the commandments, yet sensed something was missing. When Jesus challenged him to give up his wealth and follow Him, the young man walked away, saddened and unchanged. This narrative highlights how easy it is to cling to comfort and control at the expense of spiritual fulfillment and transformation.

Real Surrender Takes Us Deeper

True surrender to Jesus is less about adding Him to life's mix and more about letting Him take over entirely. It's turning "almost" into "all-in," a concept that's admittedly countercultural. And yes, it's challenging. Real surrender might mean releasing the illusion of control, daily choosing obedience even when inconvenient, forgiving when it hurts, and letting go of our perceived securities.

The Countercultural Call to Daily Commitment

Jesus calls us to deny ourselves and take up our cross daily. It's a lifestyle, not a one-time decision. Every morning, in every choice, we’re faced with the question: who holds the reins today?

Choosing time with God, even amidst the chaos of daily life, requires diligence but reaps the rewards of an anchored soul. Remember, none of us is perfect, but daily dedication prevents drift, that slow, subtle move away from God.

Closing the Gap: From Almost to Fully In

The shift from almost to fully following involves conscious steps. If there’s an area in your life where you haven’t surrendered, it’s time to acknowledge it and make changes. Whether it’s setting aside time to seek God in the Word or stepping out in obedience in areas you’ve wavered, each step is a move toward a life transformed.

In Revelation, we’re reminded that lukewarm faith is neither hot nor cold—it’s stagnant. Almost feels safe, but keeps us in limbo, lacking the transformative power of full surrender.

Your Journey Begins Here

So, I challenge you today—what are you holding onto that’s keeping you from fully following Jesus? What’s the “almost” in your life? Are you relying on comfort rather than truth?

Recall Romans 10:9: "If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Let these words resonate, inviting you to a life reshaped by true surrender.

If today you feel that pull, that conviction, I invite you to pray with me, to declare your commitment and begin the transformation from almost to fully His. Remember, Jesus doesn't want part of you—He desires your whole heart, ready to transform and lead you into a life of peace and fulfillment driven by His truth and love. Embrace it today.
